Fostering Casual Collision and Creativity in a Virtual World
The issue of COVID-19 that happened in December 2019 has affected every industry in the world. It has put everyone into a state of anxiety and stress. People starting to protect themselves by paying attention to social distancing. Normally, people can simply chat with others when they meet someone like their colleagues in the elevator or pantry in the office. But as the pandemic got worse, people started to work from home instead of going to the office. The less casual collision in this period will cause their creativity and innovation to get low.
From the article, we know that communication between people is very important because it will help to increase people's creativity and innovation in daily life. There are also some ways to foster creativity and innovative thinking during this period in a virtual world like conducting a virtual meeting room, groups, and chat, using randomize buddy system to let employees meet with other people from different work scopes, and encouraging the employee to share their idea or day routine in the group so they might meet new people that have the same interest.
DESIGN PROPOSAL
Based on the issue in that article focus which is social communication, the objective of this project is to help to increase communication in society. By encouraging people to communicate, people can find joy and meaning in their lives to increase their creativity and innovative thinking in life. From the key points from the article, a centre that encourages people to share with a stranger is such a good idea that can be working.
SITE ANALYSIS
The project site is Petron Subang Jaya SS14, Jalan SS14/2, ss,14,47500 Subang Jaya. It is a good location because it is on the corner. But there is high sound pollution around it because of the high traffic road and highway. Through the research for the surrounding area, I found that the residential and commercial is in a high range and there are also some institutions in the opposite.
STRUCTURE RESEARCH
The structure of the petrol station is built by using steel which can reduce the risk factor of fire. The steel frame is lightweight but high strength.
TARGET USER
The target user of the sharing centre is adolescence (10-24yo) because some of them are facing the stress of working or studying, they might be faced some problems in their workplace but they are afraid to tell parents or friends. And they also need a good expression ability which will help them in social or convey their thoughts.
WHAT CAN I DO
There are some activities that I can do which are conversation starters in a randomized buddy system, sharing a story or thought, and expression workshop. From these activities, the user will not only learn the way how they express, but they also can get inspiration or ideas which might be helpful in their life to support them become a better or confident person.
RESEARCH OF RELEVANT ACTIVITIES
StoryPod. It is a Video Booth that conducted by Humankind Enterprises in Australia. It is an engagement and deep listening tool which lets their clients or community share their stories, ideas, and visions for the future. This project and platforms harness the power of storytelling to create a greater connection, acceptance, and resilience in Australian communities.
The Empowerment Center in the USA is to help youth and families to overcome challenges, discover their strength, create healthier and happier in their life. They have 4 programs for youth which are strength discovery, character development, financial literacy, and performing art. The strength discovery and character development are to let them discover and develop personal strength to communicate who they are and at the same time improve their social and emotional skills.
SPACE NEEDED
These are the main 3 spaces that use for my activities, exhibition, chatbox, and multipurpose room. The multipurpose room is used for the chatbox and workshop. This is because the workshop is only conducted at the weekend.
